Hi everyone!  Another week of training for the Gold Nugget Tri is complete, and it was a pretty good week!

Monday:  Rest day

Tuesday:  Swim class.  I learned how to do the backstroke which was a total game changer!  I plan on using it whenever I start to feel tired or like I can’t breathe while doing freestyle in the race.

Wednesday:  I had a PT appointment, which involved a pretty intense ab workout.  I also got new exercises to work on at the gym and I’m excited to see how much they help me get back to normal!

Thursday:  My last swim class!  I learned how to breaststroke which was really fun.  I look like a frog!  My instructor took a video of me swimming all three of the strokes I learned so I could see what my form looked like, and while I can identify a few areas where I need to improve, I was really proud of  myself for how far I’ve come in the last five weeks!

Friday:  I ended up taking a nice walk with my husband after work.  I wanted to go swimming too, but it was nice being outside instead!

Saturday:  I went for a morning hike with some of my friends.  We headed out to Eklutna Lake, which is one of my favorite places in Alaska.  It was so gorgeous!  We only went a few miles along the lake because I didn’t want to aggravate my injury, but it was so much fun.

After taking a break for lunch, I met up with one of my friends who is also doing the GNT to do a 10 mile bike ride along the GNT race course.  I was nervous about the hills, but they actually weren’t that bad!  I’m still getting used to my bike so it was tough at some points (and I may have fallen at a stop sign, whoops!) but I’m so glad I went and was able to see what I’ll be doing on race day.

Sunday:  After a lazy morning, I went on a disc golf double date!  It was absolutely gorgeous and sunny and warm so I actually spent more time laying on the grass in the sunshine than I did throwing the disc.  I ended up walking 3 miles on the course and loved every minute of it!

You may have noticed that in most of my pictures this week I’ve been wearing an awesome new pair of sunglasses.  They are the XX2i Bermuda1 sunglasses, and they’re actually the only casual model of sunglasses that XX2i makes.  As a BibRave Pro, I was sent a pair to test out and I LOVED them!  I’m all about big sunglasses, and I immediately threw them into my purse so that I’d have them ready for the next sunny moment.

I found myself grabbing them constantly over the last few weeks!  I wore them while hiking, biking, driving, and just hanging out.  They’re way better than the cheap glasses I was using before, and I love that they come with a case so that I know they won’t get destroyed in my purse (I’ve done that before).  I love that they match with everything I own, and I’m planning on wearing these all summer long!  I might have to buy my husband a pair too because he keeps trying to steal mine.  He likes them better than his Ray Bans, which is a huge deal!

Here’s the official description from XX2i: “As XX2i’s first casual model, the Bermuda1 is the ultimate go-to sunglass that goes easy on your wallet. Available in classic Matte Black, Matte Tortoise, White & Black, and Crystal Black, the Bermuda1 is the perfect accessory for adventure, whether that be a trip to the beach or a quick walk with the dog. Using the same advanced materials as XX2i’s performance models, the Bermuda1 comes standard with polarized lenses that employ 4K optical technology, ensuring the utmost frame durability and lens clarity.”   They will be on sale very soon, so make sure to participate in Bibchat on twitter at 5 pm AST/9 pm EST this Tuesday to find out how you can get a pair too!  You can use the code XX2iRocks to get 50% off your order!

This upcoming week is going to be my first one without swim lessons, but I still plan on doing a few hour long sessions in the pool to make up for it.  My focus will be on endurance and starting to figure out how long I think this will take me to finish, because I need to know that before I start the race.  I also hope to go on at least two outdoor bike rides because the weather looks pretty good this week and I’m hoping to get more use out of my new sunglasses!  🙂

What did you do this weekend?  Were you able to rock some sunglasses or were you stuck indoors?

  1. Funny thing is, despite the fact, that I have all sorts of running gear, I don’t own a single pair of running sun glasses… might change that soon…

    1. I always just wear a crappy pair that I don’t mind if it falls off my face. I need to buy some from XX2i with their current discount!

      1. I hope you get to review
X-Bionic tights soon. They look so comfy but sadly are even more expansive than the 2XU ones…
