Hi everyone! This weekend was the first weekend in a while where we stayed in town instead of going on some huge adventure, and it was so nice to just relax for once. I was also excited to finally get to try out my new fat tire bike! I already own a road bike for triathlons/fast biking, as well as a mountain bike to ride in all the places where my road bike can’t go. But I’ve been dying to get a fat bike ever since the snow started falling back in October. Fat bikes can travel over snow easier than mountain bikes and I felt really safe and sturdy riding up and down the trail by my house, although it’s definitely tough riding around in single digit temps.
I actually bought the bike a few weeks ago, but haven’t ridden it since then because it’s just so dark here in Alaska right now. The bike is black, and all of my gear is black (except my bright red coat) and even though I could easily ride the bike with my headlamp illuminating the trail, it would scare me to know that other people on the trail might not be able to see me. This is a huge concern for everything I do in the winter – running, hiking, skiing, whatever. So when I got the opportunity to test out Brilliant Reflective’s Reflective Strips, I was so excited! Staying visible in dark Alaskan winters is super hard and I need all the help I can get to stay safe!
Brilliant Reflective makes two types of reflective strips: iron-on, which are permanent, and stick-on, which can be removed and reused on both gear and clothing. The cool thing about these strips is that they come in different colors, not just the standard “reflective silver” that is on every piece of reflective gear I own. The stick-on strips c0me in a pack of 8, and the iron-on strips come in a pack of 12, although technically they can be cut into smaller strips to fit unique items/go in more places. Both types came with lots of directions on how to attach the strips, as well as where to attach the strips for maximum visibility.

It was hard for me to choose where to put the iron-on strips. I kind of hate permanent changes to my clothing, so I chose to add them to an older pair of my fleece lined tights. I put them on the bottom back and front, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to add them anywhere else. I was also tempted to add them to a fleece lined headband, but wasn’t sure if it would be able to stretch out to fit my head with big iron-on reflective strips on the side. I know I’ll find a great use for them and figured I didn’t have to rush into too much commitment for this blog post.
The stick-on strips were perfect for me though! In the future I plan on buying a ton of these and adding them to EVERYTHING! Right now they’re on my bike, ski poles, headlamp, and helmet. I really want to get another pack so I can add strips to my jacket, backpack, running shoes, boots, and gloves. Ridley needs some strips on his leash too!
They were super easy to put on and they don’t leave a sticky residue. While attaching them I had to pull them off and reattach them a few times to get them in the right spot, and I was really happy with how easy it was to reattach them again. I was also in love with the dark grey color I got because it matched everything I own perfectly! The tape blends in really well on both my bike and my ski poles and it looks like it was meant to be there.
This product was absolutely perfect for me because it’s something that keeps me safe while playing outside in the winter. It’s only $9.99 per package, and shipping is always free (which is such a big deal up here in Alaska!). My favorite part is that I can make things I already own into super safe, crazy reflective gear for a really low price. I’m really thrifty so I love that money-saving aspect of this product. I definitely recommend this product and I can guarantee if you look close enough you’ll be seeing these reflective strips all over my gear from now on!

I bought some cheap LED lights that strap to your shoes and some you can attach to pretty much anything! They are great, but will probably need batteries eventually. These reflective stickers look great!

That’s awesome that they have both iron-on and stick-on varieties, but I’m with you on the permanence thing, haha. I’m glad that they don’t leave a sticky residue!
