Hi everyone! I’m still crazy busy over here getting my house ready for my in-laws to arrive in a week and enjoying the short Alaskan summer instead of blogging as much as I normally do. But hey, you can’t fault me for spending too much time outdoors enjoying the midnight sun, right? Last weekend I was super busy getting my house ready, but I just had to go for a hike. And out of all the hikes to choose from, I went for the big one: Crow Pass! If you do the entire hike, it’s 24 miles from Girdwood to Eagle River, but I’d always heard that the first four miles from Girdwood were the most beautiful. So last Sunday, my friend and I headed out to do the first 4 miles up into Crow Pass and back for a total of 8 miles for the day. This trail was GORGEOUS. It was definitely the most Alaskan hike I’ve ever been on! It had old gold mine ruins, snowy mountaintops, creek crossings, giant waterfalls, steep trail, hidden lakes, and even a huge glacier! I want to hike this part of the trail over and over again for sure!
I was actually really impressed with myself for making the creek crossings on this one – they were scary! But definitely worth it when we got up to the top of Crow Pass and saw Raven Glacier. As always, pics don’t do it justice!
After the hike I felt really good, especially after I ate some post hike pizza 🙂 But you know what definitely helped me feel good on the hike? Body Glide! Because I’m a Bib Rave Pro, I got to test out Body Glide for a few weeks to see if I liked it enough to use on all of my summer activities.
I’ve tested a lot of products as a Bib Rave Pro, and I’ve honestly liked most of them. I’ve continued to use the products after I’ve reviewed them, and recommended them to my friends to try out as well. But in all honesty, this product is the best one I’ve ever tried. I literally can’t stop telling people about Body Glide! Where has this been all my life?! According to their website, Body Glide is “Intended as a barrier to the effects of rubbing, its formulation makes it easy to apply for all-day protection from skin on skin rubbing, chafing from clothing, or pinching and friction from shoes, protective gear, and other irritants.” It goes on like a stick of deodorant without any greasy feeling, but is scentless and can be applied anywhere where your skin tends to rub against something else. It lasts all day and is sweat resistant too!
The first time I tried it out, it was a really hot day here in Anchorage. I usually don’t wear shorts when I go running because my thighs always rub together, but this time it was the perfect opportunity to test out Body Glide. I put on a thin layer, went for a run, and wasn’t in any pain! After that, I found myself grabbing shorts for each run without having any second thoughts – as long as I put on a layer of Body Glide first! I knew that I had to start using this on hikes too. I hiked double digit miles in shorts with no chafing anywhere, including my arms where my backpack usually rubs and my ankles where my hiking boots can sometimes give me blisters. I feel like this stuff is magical! I’ve never been able to enjoy running in shorts or hiking in a tank top with my backpack on, and now I can!
Once I realized how well it worked while running and hiking, I decided to try it out in my normal day to day life as well. I put it on when I wore dresses, skirts, and sandals at work, and it definitely made my experience better! Body Glide isn’t just for runners, and I am definitely going to keep on using it on hot days when I know that chafing and blisters are a possibility. And once this stick runs out, I’m definitely buying a new one! I even want to buy a second stick for my gym bag!
