Happy Global Running Day 2016!

Hi everyone!  Sorry for the break in posts, but I’ve been a little busy up here in Anchorage. Why?  My husband and I bought our first house!  We closed on Thursday, painted on Friday, and moved on Saturday.  I’ve been packing and decorating nonstop since!  I can’t wait to post indoor pics as soon as the house looks less like a bomb of cardboard boxes exploded all over it!

And now that it’s June 1st, there are two really big things going on today.  One is my third wedding anniversary!  I can’t believe it’s been three amazing years since the best day of my life!

The other is, of course, Global Running Day.  You might be wondering what an injured runner does on Global Running Day, and I’m here to tell you that I’ve decided to make this day about my running comeback.  Usually to celebrate this running holiday, I’d go out for a 3 mile nonstop run with friends.  Today, however, I’ve decided that I will try a method that has been working okay for me since I got injured:  a very slow, careful attempt at running short intervals between longer walk breaks for about one mile.  It’s going to take me a long time, and it’s not going to be what many other runners who are out there today might think of as “running”.  But if I plan on fully getting back to running someday, I know I need to take teeny tiny baby steps in order to get there.  So today I’m going to lace up my favorite mint green ASICS, put on my shiny new triathlon finisher’s shirt, and run a tiny bit.  Because even just 2 minutes of running pain free is my idea of a perfect Global Running Day!

Want to participate in all the fun activities?  Go to globalrunningday.org and pledge to run!  It’s super quick and free and I’m excited to be in the count of over 2 million people who have already signed up to run!  And check out some of my past Global Running Day posts here and here!  Re-reading those got me so excited to run for a tiny bit today!  Running is totally the best.

How are you celebrating Global Running Day?  What’s your favorite part about running?

    1. Yes!!!!! For real, I’ve been hitting up yard sales and Craigslist and Facebook groups for some deals. I’ve gotten a few really awesome things so far and I’m really excited about them!

  1. Congratulations to your new house- that is so wonderful. We still haven’t decided yet where to settle…
Today we wanted to recce a marathon route, but it was so cold, windy and wet on the Yorkshire Moors, that we only did 8 miles and went back to the car…
Sometimes you just have to be considerate when out in the no-men’s-land…

    1. Picking a place to settle is tough. We were just so done with renting and hated the location of our last place, so it just made sense to buy now. We love all the extra space too!

  2. Happy Anniversary and Happy Global Running Day!!! My husband and I will be married 3 years in August! 2013 was a great year to get married it seems, so many people I know got married that year. Congratulations on closing on your house!!

  3. Yep, I’ll be running this evening with the local running club. I just love everything about running….the freedom, the friendships, the fitness. Hope you’re back at it soon. Enjoy your run! Here’s to a great comeback!

  4. Wow, June 1 is an exciting day for you! 😀 Congrats on the house, and happy anniversary! And happy Glorious Return to Running Day!

    1. Yeah, we had to be out of our old apartment by the 31st! It was pretty crazy but we made it work!

And even on a slow, short run, one foot in front of the other still hurts sometimes. So I’m just hoping I’ve done enough PT work to make sure I return to running pain free this time.

  5. Congratulations on your house and happy anniversary!!

I was sooooo excited to run today and the cold I felt coming on yesterday has totally kicked me in the pants today, so I’m thinking I’ll end up laying low at home instead. I’m so bummed! But, what I remind myself, is that running is something that’s lifelong, so even a few setbacks are the end.

    1. Oh no! I hope you feel up to running soon! I think you should move Global Running Day to National Donut Day (June 3rd) instead so that you can celebrate both at the same time 🙂

  6. Congrats on the new house, and happy anniversary! My running on Global running day consisted of running after my almost 3 year old at his soccer practice.
