Hi everyone! Every once in a while it’s time for a random post about life, and today just feels like that day! I don’t have much running stuff going on lately (#injuredrunnerproblems) but there is lots of big, exciting news going on this week! I am totally #winning this Wednesday!
- I’m just going to start with the biggest one: my husband and I are in the process of buying our very first house here in Anchorage! Our offer was accepted on a cute little 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house on the edge of the forest next to some awesome running trails. It’s got tons of character and gorgeous mountain views and we are just hoping the rest of the process goes smoothly until we officially close on May 23rd! And I’m probably about to go pin crazy on Pinterest with all my fun new decorating ideas!
The soon-to-be new headquarters of RAWM!
- It’s pretty hard to compete with that news, but I’ll try! My other big news is that I signed up for beginner adult swim lessons at a local college! I start next Tuesday and will go twice a week for a month. I’m so excited to finally figure out what I’m doing in the pool for my upcoming tri!
- Last weekend it was 45 degrees and sunny, which is downright warm for March. So I decided that after a month of rest, it was the perfect time for me to try a run again. I started with a 5 minute slow walk, did 3:2 intervals (3 minutes walking, 2 minutes running slowly and carefully), and finished with a 5 minute cool down walk. The sunset views were gorgeous and I was pain free! And unless you’ve ever been injured, I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing it feels to run for even just 2 minutes after a month off. I think I’ll try again next weekend and see if I can slowly work my way up to 2 short run/walk sessions a week sometime in April. I am planning on returning to running twice as slowly and carefully as I did in December and I hope it works this time!
Running off into the sunset ❤
- Finally, the state of Alaska is buzzing with sports news! You may have read my post about the Iditarod Ceremonial Start, and the exciting news is that the winner crossed the finish line at 2 AM on Tuesday morning! As I predicted, Dallas Seavey won his 4th Iditarod while his dad Mitch came in second. The Iditarod had tons of interesting moments this year, including an incident where a drunk snowmachiner attacked 2 sled dog teams (including the team that came in third) and killed one dog in the process. It was so incredibly sad and must have been one terrifying night. For all the info on the record breaking win this year, go here!
Do you have any advice for someone buying their first home? Have you ever taken adult swim lessons before, and what should I expect? What’s your biggest news this week? I’d love to hear it!
So exciting! I guess that means that you all are really putting down some roots, huh?
Yep! I knew as soon as we survived the crazy 8 day journey up here that I would never make that journey back down to Philly! We are just so happy here and love our jobs, friends, and all of the amazing outdoor activities! My parents don’t seem to be thrilled but I’m sure once I’m all moved in they’ll be happy for me. I hope.
Oh my gosh I’m so exited for your new home! My husband and I are hoping to start that process some time in the next couple of years.
Thank you! And I say go for it! I think I’ll write a blog post about the whole process once I’ve closed on the house because it is not what I thought it would be. There’s so much focus on numbers and credit and math and it made me so confused! But it was all worth it because the bank decided to loan me a bunch of money and now I get to live in a beautiful house in 2 weeks! Good luck on your future house purchase!
Can’t wait to see pictures!
Congrats on buying your first house! It’s such an awesome “I’m actually an adult” moment. My advice would be to try to have a sense of humor about the whole process when something goes wrong because something will go wrong (one of our holdups was that the bank couldn’t verify my husband’s employment at FedEx even though our checking account with his paychecks was at that bank and he actually delivered to that bank). Also, even though you’re hit with a ton of information, do your best to understand what everything is and what exactly you’re paying for. We thought HOA fees were covered for a year, only to receive a bill and find out that we actually paid $250 just to have the HOA transferred to our names-seriously? Good luck with your closing!
Yes! I felt like such an adult yesterday when we realized we were actually buying the house! And I’ve already been confused beyond belief and had a few crazy things thrown my way. I honestly can’t wait until the number stuff is over and I’m actually living in my own home!
Congratulations, that’s exciting news!! My husband and I bought our first home 4 years ago now (where does the time go??) and I remember going Pin crazy on Pinterest as well 🙂 A lot of my advice would have been pre-putting an offer down… I guess make sure you get a really good inspector to do the home inspection! And have a BLAST decorating and making it yours!!
Thank you! I actually just booked our inspector today – he’s highly recommended by my realtor and she will be there for the inspection along with us so I’m feeling pretty good about it. It was just inspected 2 years ago when the current owners moved in and they fixed everything on there so we’re hoping anything he finds is small and easy to fix, especially because it’s in such good condition. Thanks for the tips!
Congrats!
Thanks!
Woohoo, congratulations on buying a house, that’s awesome! 🙂
Thank you!
Congrats on being under contract! Buying a house is such an exciting, but stressful, process. But it’ll all be worth it once you have those keys in your hands.
Thank you! I am totally over all the stress and can’t wait for all of this to be over!
Congrats on the house – that is so exciting! We bought our first home last summer and I totally recommend checking out the website Houzz although you might never stop looking at it for ideas.
Thank you! And I’m heading on over there right now and thanking you in advance for ruining my free time 🙂
That’s super exciting about buying a home and it sounds like it will be perfect with the nearby trails! And yay for running again! I think it’s spring – it’s like a fresh start – a chance to wipe the slate clean and get back into things. Hope you continue to be able to run without pain 🙂
Thank you! I love the idea of starting with a fresh start – it makes me so excited about the spring!
Congrats on buying your new house. That is exciting. I started swimming for the fist time in September. I joined an adult endurance. It was very hard at first, and I ached for days. It gets easier. I’m also doing my first trip this summer. I can’t wait.
Thank you! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who is a newbie in swimming! My arms hurt from my workout on Tuesday so I’m sure I’ll be pretty sore after my lessons start too!
Good for you on the swim lessons! I took a few private lessons a couple of years ago. It was helpful, but I really can’t swim, so I was really nervous and a bit self-conscious for being an adult afraid to be in deep water. The gal made me feel comfortable but it was tough. Way to go!
That’s awesome! I wish I was taking private lessons, but it’s just more economical to take them in a group. It’s just 8 people so that makes me feel a lot more comfortable, and since we start at the absolute basics I’m looking forward to it!
