Friday Five: Cheap Fitness Finds

Hi everyone!  It’s Free Friday over in the Friday Five Linkup with Mar, Cynthia, and Courtney, and while they’re all blogging about the giant blizzard happening on the east coast, I’m up here in Alaska dreaming of snow (seriously Alaska, can we get some snow soon please?) and of shopping.  When I was Philadelphia for the holidays, I had entire days blocked off for outlet shopping and for hitting up every TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and mall in the tri-county area!  In Alaska our prices are high for everything, so it’s always exciting to find the deal of a lifetime to bring back in my suitcase.  Here are my best cheap fitness finds from my trip!  Note: I am reviewing these items for fun, not for any compensation.  None of these companies know I exist, but I wanted to share these great deals with you all in case you are looking for something new and cheap.

1. Triangle trail scarf from the Mountain Warehouse Outlet ($5):  This is a convertible scarf/buff/headband that was too cheap (and cute!) for me to pass up!  I saw the pattern from across the room and knew I had to have it.  I plan on keeping this one in my car/gym bag to use whenever I need it, and I won’t need to worry about losing it because it was so inexpensive.

2. Adidas fleece headband from TJ Maxx ($7.99):  The best place to buy winter running headbands is TJ Maxx because they’re so cheap that you can try a bunch out to find your favorite!  This is the only one I’ve been using since coming back to Alaska.  My headlamp fits perfectly on it and doesn’t move around at all, so that’s a win.

3. Yoga pants from Five Below ($5):  Yes, I realize these are leggings from a store where everything is $5 or less.  But they’re so funky that I couldn’t say no!  They’re not super high quality but they will bring me joy in restorative yoga class.

4.  Hind hydration belt from Five Below ($5):  My current hydration belt has a much smaller water bottle, and with marathon training in my not-so-distant future I knew I needed a bigger water bottle and a belt that could hold my phone.  I almost fell over when I found this one at Five Below because it had everything I wanted!  I was so excited to see Five Below carrying name brand running gear and hope they keep it up!

5.  Manduka LiveOn Yoga Mat from Marshalls ($29.99):  This was the biggest deal I found, and I almost couldn’t believe it when I saw it!  I know I just got a new yoga mat from my husband for Christmas, but I’ve always wanted to try a Manduka mat and could never afford one.  This one is so incredibly lightweight and I plan on leaving it in my office so that I can take some lunchtime yoga classes.  If every runner needs multiple pairs of running shoes, every yogi should have multiple mats, right?  Marshalls has a huge selection of yoga mats so I recommend hitting them up if you need a new one.

If you have any of these stores, you should check them out to see if you can snag these items before they’re gone!  If you don’t, you can join me in dreaming about shopping and wishing you could get cheap things on the regular.

    1. Mine too! When I moved to Alaska I was devastated to learn that we don’t have them up here (which is so strange – they have them in Hawaii so I know it’s not a distance/price thing!). I know TJ Maxx has an online section but it’s not the same as digging around and finding something amazing in person.

  1. We have TK Maxx here… but unfortunately not my favourite running brands. But every know and then I find something nice for my children. It also depends in which area you shop. In posh areas you find really good clothes in TK Maxx

    1. Haha my manager was in Europe last summer and sent me a picture of TK Maxx! I love that it has a slightly different name 🙂 I wish they had good runnings stuff for you. Not pictured here is all the pairs of fleece lined running tights that I bought for under $20 and the designer sunglasses I bought for $10! They have the best stuff and I wish they had one here in Alaska so I could go there all the time. You’re right about the location – in some areas of Philly they have some really nice stuff!

  2. I find my beloved Thorlo Experia socks at TJMaxxx and Marshalls and it makes me so happy to pay only 5.99 instead of 14.99. Great finds, I had no idea 5 Below sold name brand items like the Hind hydration belt.

    1. That’s awesome! I have bought a few pairs of Feetures socks there which is always an exciting find, but my husband thinks I’m crazy for getting excited about socks 🙂 And neither did I! That’s why when I saw it I couldn’t believe it! The price tag on the package said the hydration belt was originally $24.99 so I knew I had to get it!

    1. Haha well I hope you still get a tiny bit of snow, it’s so pretty! I think my mom is worried she’s going to get snowed in and die, but she and the rest of Philly will be fine 🙂

  3. Totally with you on TJ Maxx/Marshalls. It’s my first check for really cute workout clothes, a lot of times in the clearance 🙂 we’re getting snow/ice here in NC; I’d happily send it your way!

    1. Haha you can keep the ice, that’s like all we have! Our inch of ice got covered with a dusting of snow last week which as you can imagine has completely ruined driving and running. It’s so slippery, I just want snow!

    1. Haha thanks! The Manduka mat came from the Marshalls over on Papermill Rd if you want to check it out!

      1. Philly! It’s outdoor/hiking stuff but they have a running section in the back next to the hiking boots 🙂

  4. great deals! i went to a tj maxx once in nyc just to check it out, and everything was really pricey still 😦 maybe it was just because everything is expensive in new york? i’ll have to give it another try!

    1. Oh no! Sometimes city stores aren’t that great. I do think the prices reflect the location, which is why I like shopping at the ones where my family lives (an hour outside the city). They have a website so maybe you could find cheaper stuff on there? It’s just not as fun that way.

  5. I love TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. I’ve gotten so many killer deals in the past few years. (Saucony running gloves for $9 instead of $40, Nike reflective tights for $19 instead of $60… etc) It’s such a hidden gem for fitness apparel!

    1. Yes! All of my running and yoga tights are from there, as well as most of my running gloves and headbands. They are the best!

  6. Those are awesome deals!
The triangle scarf is super cute. I think I got a similar giveaway one from Wanderlust Festival last Fall!

    1. It’s my favorite store ever! I used to buy everything there when I lived on the East Coast, and I always try to go there as soon as I go home for a visit!

  7. while my patience for shopping is limited, I love finding low cost things from these stores! My absolute fav is Nordstrom Rack. I got a Gaiam yoga mat for $12.99! Wishing snow comes your way soon! I’m excited for our DC snowfall 🙂

    1. I was just there today! Thank god we have that in Alaska. I bought $185 Keen boots for $80 and I’m really excited to wear them all the time!

  8. Looove that you got your yoga pants from Five Below! I found my favorite pair of yoga pants (leopard print, thank you!) in a clearance bin in a drug store – I love them and ALWAYS get compliments on them when I wear them on Instagram. And I have zero problems proudly announcing where I got them. #Score!

  9. These are some great finds. Always fun to find a desk for something you want or need. Nothing wrong with five below either

    1. I love Five Below! I just never thought I would ever find $5 yoga pants, especially there. I haven’t been there in so long and I was so excited about their giant workout section!

    1. Yes! I once got a really expensive running jacket at Target for like $10. That’s my favorite kind of cheap fitness gear find!

  10. Holy crap, that Manduka mat is a total score! I really need a new yoga mat–mine is from my freshman year of college, and I think I got it for $10 at Target. Definitely not high quality, and a bit stinky for sure. I’ll have to start trolling TJ Maxx and Marshalls now!
