Hi everyone! I’m so excited about today’s blog post because it comes with some pretty big news:
Yay! Now that Labor Day has come and gone, summer is over and it’s time to start getting in the fall spirit. If you aren’t aware, I’m OBSESSED with fall. It’s my favorite season and when it rolls around you can find me doing one of two things:
1. Eating pumpkin flavored food/coffee
2. Spending time outside with the changing leaves
Now, I know what you’re thinking: it’s not actually fall. The leaves are green and the PSLs just got released nationwide today, right? But up here in Anchorage that’s not true! It’s getting dark at night now, and it has been a bit colder than usual – I’ve had to start wearing my jacket to work in the mornings and I’ve even pulled my boots out of the back of my closet. Also, I had my very first PSL on Friday and it was awesome! I guess there’s pumpkin in there now, but it tastes just like it did last year. I’m ready to drink these as much as I can before the Whole Life Challenge starts on September 19th!
The biggest clue that fall is here in Anchorage is that our leaves started changing colors last week! So on Saturday a nice long hike at Eklutna Lake was absolutely necessary!
We also found this cool shelter that someone built on the beach! I used to make these when I was a little kid 🙂
I spent the rest of my weekend running, hiking, and playing disc golf with my husband, all while staring at the beautiful fall leaves. It was the perfect start to our short fall season in Alaska, and I’m hoping I can keep this up until the end of September before we lose all of our leaves. Last year I totally missed fall in Alaska because I spent a month back home in Philadelphia, but I get to be here this year and I’m so excited! Fall is a bit different here in Alaska than it is in the Lower 48, so I can’t do all of the things that I usually love doing. But there’s still some pretty cool things that I can do, so I decided to make a fall bucket list! In the next few months, I want to do the following things:
I’m looking forward to enjoying my first fall in Alaska and making the most out of every second before winter comes!
What’s on your fall bucket list? Are you excited about fall or wishing it was still summer?
I am SO excited for fall and I already had my first PSL of the season too! I may have been wearing flip flops and shorts while I drank it but who cares?! Those pictures are all gorgeous. Please keep posting progress of the color changes, those are my favorite!
I will!
Love seeing the leaves changing colors. Anchorage looks like a beautiful place!! I’m SO excited for all things fall, too! Bring on the pumpkin!!!
Anchorage is so pretty in the fall! All of the leaves are yellow and it looks awesome.
I love fall too, but we’re not quite there yet. In fact, yesterday was our hottest day of the year so far! And I feel like I missed most of the summer because of my show, so I’m trying to squeeze in a few more summery activities in these last few warm, sunny days.
Oh man that’s rough. I hope your heat calms down a bit soon!
The last couple of mornings have been nice, but by midday it’s hot again.
I am actually ready to celebrate fall too! I feel like this summer went super super fast, but why not celebrate whatever season you’re in? It’ll be gone soon too, so celebrate it while you can! My fall bucket list def. includes some after work hikes. I LOVE fall hikes and really want to do a trail race, so I gotta practice somewhere 🙂
Same here! I hope you can find some trail races in PA!
I don’t have to wish it was still summer, with temps in the 90s it really IS still summer. But that will thankfully change towards the end of the week.
Fall is pretty, but as I mention on instagram, that pretty has to be raked. Usually right around the time I need to be resting up for a race!
And it means winter is not far behind.
But even so, the leaves are changing here, too (and falling already).
I live in an apartment so luckily I don’t have to rake, but I can see how that makes it way less fun. I hope you get cooler temps soon!
As long as it’s not 90 with 90% humidity (and it’s not), I’m happy. It’s supposed to be a bit cooler next week. I’ll be sad to have to start layering up again.
I swear I have seen some leave changes here in NY too, but I think they may be burned from the crazy sun or I’ve become delusional. Boots….I can’t wait for boots…
Boots are my favorite! I almost wore some today (it was 48 degrees and rainy) but I’m trying to get away with wearing my flats for a little bit longer while it’s not too cold!
I second more trail runs and making cider doughnuts!
I’m so excited for both of those!
I do love the colors of fall but that’s about where my excitement for the season stops.
Haha well I hope you get to see some pretty colors soon!
I’m a little sad for summer to be coming to an end, but you are right – fall’s pretty awesome! 🙂 I’m hoping to explore some new parks while running, eat plenty of pumpkin-flavored things, and get back to wearing my millions of scarves!
This sounds like my plan! Have fun! 🙂
This is my first fall in Alaska as well! I am SO HAPPY that Summer is over!!! I moved here because I have zero heat tolerance and am a cold weather/snow lover, and yes, it is still hotter than heck at the place I left behind. It makes my day that Fall has arrived already here in Anchorage! Can’t decide if the Falling leaves and changing colors of Fall or the white blanket of snow in the winter is my favorite! Guess I’ll call it a tie 🙂
Yay welcome to Alaska! I love it here – I moved up here for the same reasons you did and it’s the best place on earth! Let me know if you ever want to go running sometime, and enjoy your fall!
