I got some incredible news last night…news that I can’t even comprehend right now, because it’s basically news that I never thought I would get. I can’t even share it with you all yet since I don’t even know how to explain how crazy my life is, but hopefully next week I will have more details and can write a coherent blog post about it. There are too many unknowns and I’m going to spend a lot of time this week figuring it all out before I tell the world! For now, here’s a hint:
But I know a place that I’m in love with that has a lot of trees that look like that…and mountains…and hiking trails…and I might be moving there in two months 🙂 Yeah. Just saying.
Sorry this isn’t a real blog post, but I want to look back on this day and remember how excited, emotional, confused, and happy I was! My real wisdom can wait until next week.
Have you ever made a cross country move? What advice do you have for someone who *might* be doing that very soon?
Yes. This girl has made many a’move. Michigan to New Jersey when I got married. Jersey to North Carolina a year later. After three years in NC we moved here to WI. Might have another move in our relatively near future as well. (I also moved around a lot as a kid. All in MI though.).
Things I’ve learned: Moving can be a lot of fun. It’s also a lot of stress at some points. If you can afford it, get a moving company! (Especially if you are moving cross-country). Sometimes you just need to leave your belongings in storage while you find a place to settle… Don’t leave the protective blankets in with them, you might get charged. And, in some cases, as excited as your are to go… I might not end up being as awesome as you imagined but things happen for a reason and you are there for a reason. It might be a stepping stone. (Or it turns out to be better than you imagined and in that case, woo hoo!)
Thanks! We’ve been planning this move for a year, but last night I got a job offer so now it’s really REALLY happening! I’m so excited about where we are going, just not about driving all my stuff across the country to get there 😦 It’s a bit overwhelming right now but once we figure out the logistics I know I’m going to be so excited!
That is awesome. I am so glad it worked out for you! The drive only happens once. It’ll be long and might be sucky, but you’ll get to see lots of the country and that can be pretty cool!
Intriguing! I’ve never moved to another state, let alone cross country, but it sounds like a fun adventure. Trees, mountains and trails make me think of the Pacific Northwest – perhaps Washington or Oregon? 🙂
You’re kind of close! I can’t wait to tell everyone but I need to figure out some details first because I know if I just blurted out where we are moving everyone would have a million questions that I won’t be able to answer until late next week!
Sounds exciting! Good luck and I hope the detail sorting isn’t to stressful. This horrible winter has me dreaming of moving to warmer climates but I need mountains – that is where I am happiest! Some day it will happen!
Haha we are definitely not moving somewhere warm! I should have more details by the end of next week so I’m excited to share that with everyone!
in 2012, i made the move from southern california to chicago. it was a big step for me, as i was doing it alone, but i have loved every minute of it so far (…okay, maybe not the subzero minutes, but besides that!) my advice is to let yourself get excited! look up races and restaurants and everything that the place has to offer so you have things to look forward to. also, it seems like you already love this place, so just revel in the fact that you have the opportunity to move; not everybody gets that chance! i’m excited to hear more about it next week!
Wow that’s a pretty big move! We are also moving somewhere colder but I think we can handle it! I’ve actually started looking up races there and my husband told me I’m insane. But I’ve got to keep running no matter where I live!
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited to hear about your move! The suspense is building! 😉
I wish I could tell everyone but there are so many questions that I can’t answer until the end of next week! I’m dying over here!
WHAT? Well, that’s fantastic news… however we better meet before you go anywhere! 😉
Haha yes we do! You’re not running any local races in the next two months are you?
I am but I don’t think that they are the same ones you are. Are you doing the BOMF 5 miler?
Excited to hear!
Thanks! I’m so crazy excited and I can’t wait to share all the details!
Wow! I just moved to New Jersey from Ohio so I can somewhat relate. It is an adventure, but really fun and not nearly as difficult as you think it will be. Can’t wait to hear where the new location is!
Wow I didn’t know you were from Ohio! I’m nervous about the logistics of moving because I’ve never even imagined moving this far away but we’ll see what happens!
Exciting! Hope you’re coming west!
I am actually! I can’t wait to reveal where it is!
wow!! that would definitely have me feeling all sorts of things too! I love where I live and can’t imagine moving anywhere–it seems like you like where you might be headed though and that’s awesome!!
I wish I could say I love where I live, but I am so sick of commutes that take over 1 hour each way, humidity in the summer and (usually) no snow in the winter, and no nearby hiking opportunities. We are ready for a change for sure!
Love that quote and can’t wait to hear your news!
Yay! I can’t wait to tell everyone!
Just catching up on your post now! So exciting! Due to my husbands line of work we made several cross country moves within a year and a half time period. Wyoming to Michigan/New Mexico (training for him) , New Mexico to Texas, Texas to New York. I learned that I can pack up an entire house in 3 days flat (pre children) but I still loathe the moving process. We’re looking at relocation again.. Cross country in one of several directions and I can’t even fathom moving everything now! Good luck, I can’t wait to hear more about your big move!
