Hey everyone! I had such a busy weekend, and I’m kind of glad it’s over. As I said in my last post, both the manager and scheduler of my department are away on vacation and I’m taking over the scheduling duties while they are gone and it is TOUGH! I spent most of the weekend trying to get a difficult shift covered for Tuesday and I’m still having trouble with it, so tomorrow hopefully I will be able to get a coworker to help me out. But I did manage to have some fun this weekend! My 10 year old niece Evelyn spent the night on Friday, and then on Saturday we drove out to Lititz to visit the Wolf Sanctuary of PA. Evelyn is obsessed with wolves, and loved getting to see them up close and learn more about the different wolf packs in the sanctuary. After checking out the wolves, I decided that since we were less than 30 minutes from Hershey that we needed to hit up Chocolate World!
If you’ve never been to Hershey, you need to start planning a visit ASAP! We rode the Chocolate Factory Tour ride (which gives out free chocolate at the end – we got Rolos!) and then ate the most delicious milkshakes ever created. After stuffing ourselves silly with chocolate, we checked out the chocolate gift shop. It’s literally heaven on earth for chocolate lovers! My husband had to keep us under control…it was tough, especially since they were selling 1/2 pound Reese’s cups!
I had so much fun hanging out with my niece! Our 2 hour road trip from Philly didn’t feel so tough because Evelyn made us play the alphabet game while driving to Lititz, and then we played a game called “Guess what ___ I’m thinking of” on the way home. If you’re unfamiliar with this game (which I think Evelyn made up), each person picks a category and the other people have to guess which thing in that category you’re thinking of. For example, “Guess what Hershey product I’m thinking of”. Kids make car rides a lot more interesting! Andrew and I were exhausted after dropping her off though. Kids are a lot of work! Today I felt the need to get a long run in after all that chocolate, so I did 5 miles on the Schyulkill River trail in Valley Forge. Long runs are definitely better along a flat pretty trail!
Speaking of running, it’s time to check in on my progress in the Pile on the Miles challenge happening over on Run, Eat, Repeat! In week #1 (11/3-11/9) I ran a total of 12.2 miles! My weekly goal is 12 miles, so I’m off to a good start! The 10k last weekend definitely helped get me there 🙂
And for those of you who need a bit of motivation on this beautiful Monday, I’ll leave you with this. Be gutsy today!
How are you doing in Pile on the Miles? Are you planning on running today? And who else is as obsessed with chocolate as I am?
I won’t make my pile on the mile goal thanks to my knee injury. Sad. Great job on the long run. I’m itching to get a load of miles under me as soon as I can. The limited amount of running I’ve done over the last month is driving me crazy.
Boo to no running! I read about your injury and it’s totally crazy! Hopefully you’ll be able to start running again soon. Can you Pile on the Miles of swimming or something that doesn’t involve your knees?
Aw man, you were so close to me girlie!!! Glad you had fun at Hershey! 🙂
I totally didn’t think about that! I try to go out to Hershey as much as possible so I’ll let you know when I go out there again! How do you live so close to those milkshakes and not eat them every day???
