It’s Friday! Why is this Friday so fabulous?
1. The weather, again! This weekend is once again going to be beautiful with perfect, low temps. I may have to go for a tiny little hike on Saturday even though it’s my pre-race rest day!
2. Last night I ran my “workout bucket list” run! Do you have one of these? For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s a run that I’ve been dying to do for about a year, but I never thought I could really handle it. It’s the entire 4.3 mile multi use trail at Ridley Creek State Park! If you’re thinking it doesn’t sound so bad, that’s because you’ve never walked up the dreaded 0.5 mile super steep hill at the beginning! I know I tend to be dramatic about hills, but this thing is so steep and feels never ending. I should take a picture, but you can’t see the top from the bottom. Last year I couldn’t walk up the whole thing without taking a break, and last night I ran up it and then ran an additional 3.8 miles! And I did it in 45:35! This is kind of a big deal for me, and I’m so happy I was able to do it right before my last big race of the year! I’m hoping I can handle the hills of the Ben Franklin Bridge like I handled that hill!
3. Tonight Andrew and some of our friends are hitting up a food truck showdown at a local Co-op. Andrew and I are kind of food truck obsessed right now (who else watched Food Truck Wars?) so we’re really excited to check out some awesome food trucks tomorrow! And yes, I checked already, and there’s a cupcake truck 🙂
Looking ahead to this weekend, I’ve got the Cooper Norcross Run The Bridge 10k on Sunday! I’ll be running across the Ben Franklin Bridge (half of it is pictured above), twice! And then finishing up the last 3 miles around Camden and into the Riversharks stadium. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you already know that of course I’m nervous for this race and it’s still 2 days away! In fact, while driving on I-95 yesterday I saw road signs mentioning the bridge closure and got so many butterflies! I always want to get a PR, but this 10k is so close to the Runner’s World 10k that I’m not sure if I should expect one. I also still failed to train properly for this race, and I’m still worried about an injury, but since I was able to wing it at Runner’s World I’m just going to try to do it again this weekend. No more long races for me until the Kris Kringle 5 miler at the end of the year! I can’t handle all this stress! So I’m going to think about the positives: it’s going to be sunny and cold on race day, I get to see this fabulous view, and the race is super close to home so I won’t crash during a long car ride!
What are your weekend plans? Any fun races?

Good luck Sunday!
And keep running that hill! Running hills has made me such a strong runner. Just this summer alone I’ve shaved about 50 seconds to a minute off my average pace from running hills.
It’s so crazy how much running on hills helps with time! I hate it while I’m doing it, but it definitely helped me get that PR on the flat 5k course I did in Delaware!
Congrats on that hill! You demolished it!! Of course, good luck on your race tomorrow! Just breathe – you’ll do great!!
This weekend is comprised of blogging and running (no races), it doesn’t get much better!
So true! I love racing weekends, even if they make me super nervous! Thanks for the good luck wishes!
Hope you had a great race! I was out there too! Maybe we passed each other! It was nice and chilly, that is for sure!
I did! I can’t wait to do my race recap tomorrow! And yeah, it was really chilly on that bridge! I hope you had a good race too!
